Elder David M. Wall received the degree of Doctor of Medicine with emphasis in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Medical University of Ohio, 2 June 2006. He will work at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinatti, Ohio during his residency for the next four years. Dr. Wall shared this most special time with President and Sister Charles, who drove up from nearby Kentucky, by inviting President Charles to place the doctoral hood on his shoulders during the graduation ceremonies in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Wall introduced President Charles to the audience as his mentor. It was a most happy and humbling experience for President Charles and Sister Charles.

Mission Closure Information

The following letter was written by a missionary couple currently serving in the Düsseldorf Mission:

"The missionary work has or is somewhat better than last year. For the Dusseldorf mission there were only 67 baptisms all year in 2000 and this is with 120 Elders in the mission. This is an average of about 5.5 baptisms each month. This year so far has averaged about 10. The big stumbling blocks are the Word of Wisdom and chastity. The popular fashion among the teens seem to be smoking and cigarettes are very easily obtained from the vending machines scattered throughout the city. But in Germany one can drink or buy beer at the age of 16. So you see the Elders have a lot of work cut out to help them overcome some of the traditions and peer pressures.

Today we found out the Dusseldorf mission is closing. It will coalesce with the Frankfurt Mission. So the missionaries will be divided between two missionsHamburg and Frankfurt. The missionaries in the Stake Dortmund will be in Hamburg and the missionaries in the Stake Dusseldorf will be in the Frankfurt. President Apel will be the new mission president in Frankfurt as of July 1, 2001. This was unexpected news but with the number of baptisms in Germany it is not surprising. We understand that there is a lower number of available young men for the next two years and that missions in those countries where growth and help is needed more have a higher priority."
